Course Syllabus

Course:

• Introduction to Linear Algebra
• MTH 222 Section E
• Meets 2:30-3:25 p.m. MWF in 110 Bachelor Hall

• Office Hours: 4-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; or by appointment

Textbook:

• Elementary Linear Algebra: Applications Version, 11th edition by Anton and Rorres
• We will cover approximately Chapters 1-7

Grades:

• 40% Final exam
• 20% Midterm exam 1
• 20% Midterm exam 2
• 20% Quizzes

Curve:

• Individual exam scores will not be curved
• At the end of the semester I might curve your overall scores. The curve will be at least as generous as the usual A- for 90%, B- for 80%, etc.

Homework:

• Optional homework problems will be assigned periodically. You should do as many as you need in order to understand the material and prepare for the quizzes and exams. I will not collect or grade your answers to these problems, but you can ask me about them during office hours

Quizzes:

• Will be given on Mondays
• No make-ups for any reason
• Your lowest score will be dropped
• Electronic devices (including calculators), notes, and formula sheets are NOT allowed

Midterm exams:

• Wednesday, September 30 (first exam)
• Monday, November 2 (second exam)
• Electronic devices (including calculators), notes, and formula sheets are NOT allowed

Final exam:

• 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9 in the usual room (110 Bachelor Hall)
• The final exam is cumulative
• Electronic devices (including calculators), notes, and formula sheets are NOT allowed

• September 11: Last day to drop without a grade; credit / no credit change deadline
• October 26: Last day to drop with a grade of 'W'
