Instructions

When you teach your first online course, you'll need to update the Instructor details (bio, contact information, office hours, etc.) so that they pertain to you as opposed to the course author, or a previous instructor who taught the course. One of the places containing instructor-specific details is the "About the Instructor" section found in the course syllabus.

What you need to do to complete this assignment:

  1. Review the About the Instructor template, copied below:

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR TEMPLATE:

""About [Instructor - Add Name]

This introduction should be welcoming and give the students a sense of who you are and your personality. The idea is to help students understand that online courses are taught by real instructors, not just the computer!

Answer the following sample questions: What is your educational background? Why did you choose your discipline? What is your teaching/professional experience? What do you like about teaching this course? What are your interests outside of the classroom?

You can include a picture (click embed image) and/or record a short welcome video (click record/upload media) using the Rich Content Editor.

  1. Create your own "About [your name here]" statement in an external location outside of Canvas, such as a Google Doc, so that you'll have it to copy and paste from in the future when you teach your online course. You can use text, video, or a combination of the two.
  2. Click the "Take the Survey" button on this Canvas page to open up the assignment question and rich content editor, where you can paste your response (Instructor Note: This assignment is set up as a "survey" in Canvas in order to automatically give you points when you submit!)
  3. Click "Submit" to submit your assignment and receive credit.
  4. Self-evaluate your submission using this sample assignment rubric.

About self-assessing your assignment:

Due to the automated nature of E1, you will not receive explicit evaluation and feedback on this assignment from an instructor. However, the aforementioned rubric created for this assignment is provided for you to review and evaluate your own work.
