After solving a problem, it's important to take some time to reflect on that process. What went well? What didn't go well? If you had it all to do over again, what would you change - and why?

Checking back on the solution you've implemented, and interpreting the results of your problem-solving efforts, can help you become much more adept at problem-solving in the future. You begin to understand yourself better as a problem-solver, and you become aware of what solutions work well in certain situations, vs. what solutions didn't achieve their desired effects.

This ability to complete an action, then look back at it later with a critical eye and assess your own actions and thought processes, is called metacognition: the ability to think about your own thinking. Metacognitive thinking is what allows you to develop, learn more, and grow as you tackle new tasks and responsibilities. It is what makes learning possible.
