Text:
- Calculus (Early Transcendentals), by James Stewart (8th edition). Getting a paper copy is not necessary, but you may want one.
- Some options for buying the book can be found here.
- We quickly review some important notions from Calculus I and then cover Chapters 7, 8, 10, 11; see the calendar for the sections that are covered in this semester.
Homework:
- Recommended homework for Chapters 2-7 and Chapters 8 and 11 and Chapter 10.
- You will do some group works in class (each Monday); these are collected and will be counted toward your grade. I will drop your lowest two scores if you do not have more than 3 absent scores during the semester (I would not accept any late submissions for the group works).
- Look at this file to find your group.
Quizzes:
- There will be ten quizzes throughout the semester.
- Quizzes are given on Fridays and will be based on sections covered on Monday-Thursday of that week.
- Each quiz will consist of one to three problems either taken directly from the homework assignments or very closely related to the homework assignments.
- These quizzes will be taken at the end of the class period on the day in which they are given.
- Only your eight best quizzes will count towards your grade, therefore, no make-up quizzes will be allowed for any reasons. If you happen to miss a quiz then it will count as one of those that are dropped.
Tests:
- There will be three in-class tests.
- Make-up tests will be given only in the case of an unavoidable emergency to students who obtain permission to miss a test in advance.
- The dates for the tests are as follows:
Test I: September 22.
Test II: October 20.
Test III: November 17.
Final Exam:
- The final exam is cumulative and will be on December 13 from 12:45-2:45.
- Electronic devices (including calculators), notes, and formula sheets are NOT allowed.
Grade Distribution:
- Homework 8%
- Tests (I), (II), and (III) 42%
