Identifying Bad Habits
It's challenging to confront our bad habits, because oftentimes our bad habits are tied to specific parts of our personality and self-image: we have become so accustomed to certain bad habits (like always running late, or seeing yourself as a procrastinator) that we internalize those habits as part of our sense of self. This makes letting go of those habits doubly hard. Not only are we breaking a habit - never an easy task by itself - we are also changing a behavior that is tied, to some degree, to how we think about ourselves.
Identifying bad habits, therefore, requires more than just identifying behaviors that are holding you back. It entails asking yourself WHY you engage in those behaviors, and how those behaviors are tied to particular personality traits.
This quiz allows you to see the links between habitual behavior and personality: it's from the New York Times, and is based on a book by Gretchen Rubin that explores this concept in greater detail.
The quiz is only 16 questions long, but it should give you a sense of what your habits are, good and bad. It can also demonstrate how those habits might be tied to parts of your personality, thus giving you a clue as to how to change them.
